Pictures and mirrors: start with the item

A small framed print and a heavy mirror need different preparation. Tell Dan the dimensions, approximate weight and the hanging hardware on the back. If the manufacturer provides fitting instructions, include those details with your enquiry.

Explain where the item will go, how high it should sit and whether other pictures need to line up with it. Photograph the proposed wall when contact is connected. Check that you have any specialist brackets supplied with the item.

Shelves need the right wall and fixings

For shelf fitting, provide the shelf length, depth, bracket type and intended use. A shelf for lightweight ornaments is different from one intended for a row of books. Wall suitability and the proposed load must be considered before fitting.

If you know whether the wall is solid masonry, plasterboard or another construction, include that information. Mention nearby sockets, pipe routes or previous fixing damage. The work should be assessed before deciding on fixings; customer-supplied hardware is not automatically suitable.

One wall or a whole home?

A single mirror, picture or shelf can be quoted as a small job. For several fittings, list the items by room and identify the most important ones. Grouping work can help plan a practical visit.

List framed pictures, artwork, mirrors and shelves separately, with their approximate weights and intended positions. Share whether you want a straight line, a gallery-wall arrangement or a single fitting. Shelf fitting enquiries should explain what the shelf needs to hold. TV wall mounting is not part of the advertised service range.
